There are 5 printing techniques used when ordering from custom albums: Engraving, Thermography, Letter Press, Flat Printing, and Laser/Inkjet Printing.

Engraving:
Engraving is the finest form of printing. A copper plate is etched with the text or image in reverse for each individual custom stationery item. When the plate is finished, it is then pressed into the back of your paper creating a raised surface. This raised surface is then inked resulting in a distinctive three-dimensional image rich in detail and quality.

Thermography:
Thermography is second in look, feel and cost to Engraving. It simulates engraving but can be executed with more speed and at a lower cost. The image is flat printed with ink. While the ink is wet, a powder is applied and heated, causing the ink to expand, creating a raised effect.

Letter Press:
Letter press is the use of a plate combined with ink. A plate is created with your image and then inked. The inked plate is then pressed into the paper, leaving a concave impression of the image covered in ink. This debossed image is the oldest method of printing and prized for its luxurious look and feel.

Flat Printing:
Flat printing is the most common form of printing. Your image is simply created and then placed on a press where standard inks are used. The image is imprinted flat on your choice of paper or invitation. No special powder or heating is done as with Thermography.

Laser/ Ink Jet Printing:
Laser or Ink Jet Printing is the most economical and timely of all of the printing methods. The image or text for your stationery or invitation is created through custom design software run by a trained member of our staff. For people who do not have the time to wait-this is the best solution.

The art of Calligraphy is now available at Cynthia's as part of its In-House printing department. Utilizing our specialized software we are able to create classic calligraphy images for the addressing of envelopes, place and table cards, and other requested stationery items.

We are able to closely match font and ink colors used in the original printing process, creating the perfect finishing touch.
